Even a dedicated hermit will want some metal for character progression (3 bars for a grinder) and quality of life (1 bar for a scythe, 1 for a cellar, 4 for a pick). I don't think trading for these things should be easy as breathing, but I think there should be options besides everyone mining their own metal, grinding to 100 agility first priority, or hiking and rowing for 2 hours then keeping watch over their boat full of chantrelles while they hope someone trades them half of what they need.

I don't want "whenever you feel like it." I want "available earlier, but more costly across the board." Any ideas for making travel less effortless for established players would be welcome; all I can think of at the moment is making booze less effective, which isn't really a good idea because it hits newer players with less production even harder, which is why I focused more on the part about "available earlier."

i agree with mightyagrippa, it should be "available earlier, but more costly across the board."

Well, if fast-travel wasn't in the game, I'd suggest that stamina regeneration and hunger decay be tied to civilization level, in that stamina regenerates faster and hunger decays slower where civilization is highest.

This would make travelling through wilderness much more difficult for everyone, and would make roads far, far more important, thus enabling people to set up villages along trade routes (and thereby decreasing the difficulty of trading between the two outlying villages).

1) Make alcohol significantly more effective. The cap here becomes not production but rate of consumption.
2) Timers should not disappear entirely but revert to the previous stage of drunkenness.
3) Distance should not prevent teleportation if one's TW bar is empty. IOW, any trip costing more than %100 simply costs %100.

Sure this means anyone can travel anywhere. But it shouldn't take a barrel of wine to give you alcohol poisoning. Maybe five or ten bottles. WHich has an entirely side benefit of actually being realistic. Constitution should certainly have an effect. Where a 10 con player can handle maybe 2-3 bottles of wine before reaching stage 10 a person with 160 con coul handle 8-12. This means that once in a while a nub should be able to travel for certain base commodities and as one develops and finds a need to trade mroe frequently or use TW to gather advanced resources....one has the ability.

It's possible that #3 should only apply to the three common destinations and not crossroads but I would say the principle of #1 should make such complicating divisions unnecessary.

That's a different story, tho. It seems that metal is a bit too rare and hard to get - at least no village near mine seems to have any. Most materials are rather easy to get or not really required, so there's no real need to trade them. Then suddendely, metal is so hard to get that everybody wants it, but nobody has it. I only found 1 cave and 1 mountain myself, the mountain turned out to be Brodgar Iron -.-

Bottom line: Villages and Communities should be able to develop their own economy. Imo there should be no need to make regular long-distance travels to Brodgar at all.

IMHO the real solution here is bog iron.

There is this but imho trade is no longer about metal except for the bare nubs.
