well, if you could salvage from destroyed objects, you cold break the cart, build a boat, break the boat, and build the cart again. time consuming, but saves a little bit on the resource cost. and i would love jackasses and horses. also stable and barn buildings, with UI for breeding and stuff. but that is for a different post

You could always have a half-way stage between a pulled cart and a draft-animal drawn caravan by implementing two-man carts. Find a neighbor or fellow villager to both pull on the cart together, so you could "justify" pulling more weight without having to implement a new type of domesticable animal.

Control of the cart could be relegated to the first person to "yoke up" to the cart, and the second person would just be along for the ride as far as user input goes

I think it may be interesting, doing things slightly different, if we simply stuck with single-player drawn carts, but allow them to hold upwards of 8-10 slots. The catch is that they would require a paved surface to roll on when loaded with anything greater than 4 objects. That would kill the whole "nomad" idea regrettably, but would allow easier transport around developed areas.

you newer folks need to understand that theres no problem in the devs implementing larger carts before draft animals and then later changing how carts work once those come in

Maybe also a bit of metal for the wheel base or something, to keep with the principle of progressively more expensive improvement (like cabin->house->mansion, or backpack->robe).

Anyway, if this offered crime protection like the lean-to, nomad lifestyle would be finally viable. Until you run into a river and can't take this baby across, that is. Maybe pay a homage to a great game and allow us to caulk this and float it, though I guess this would be hard to implement.

you have died of dysentery

anyways all you should need for water transport is rafts, really. several logs worth of wood bound with rope

Well sure, there's no problems in implementing it that way. They could implement purple three-headed cart-pulling alien sheep tomorrow if they really wanted to with just a couple new images/sprites and a few tweaks to some class definitions. In any case, i meant "halfway" in a general sense, in case there was no hope of them ever wanting to make a "draft animal" class, not so much as a timing thing. I really, really, REALLY want to work a "cart before the horse" joke in here somehow... but i'll take the high road on that one.

[p.s. Raftable waggons would be awesome, maybe even with a sinking/wrecking dynamic to add drama, but dysentery... let's just hope to high heaven the devs don't get THAT idea into their heads!]

about the draft animal thing, i think bulls could be re-coded to work as draft animals. hook a big wagon to 'em, or even hook a plough to 'em.
