Yeah, I figured that you would be one of the ones to have difficulty with that. I expect sabinati, Chakravanti, and a couple of other people to have problems with the concept, as well, so let me explain.

Playing by oneself is different from playing with oneself in this context. A person who is playing as a hermit is only interacting with things that he has done himself, on that character. From a more strict view of achievement, that specific character has accomplished and gained everything they have. The player is playing alone - by himself.

When a player brings an alt into the equation, then the level of achievement becomes less character-focused and more player-focused. It no longer becomes what that specific character can do, but what that specific player can do - the player is now playing with his characters with his other characters. Playing with himself.

The double-entendre is both illustrative and relevant.

any separation you want to make between playing one character and playing multiples is entirely in your own head and is not an objective truth
