I quite like the idea. Incorporating it with weight cummilation for movement speed (encumrence) for boats, carts (incl. when animal drafting is included) and carrying, whilst factoring terrain would be great. The latter of course discussed in various other threads.

I'm ambivalent on adding weight to the inventory system, but I'd prefer grid + weight over a numeric volume system. Grids reflect volume well in my opinion and an addition counter on the side/top of the inventory screen to show weight along with some weight info on mouse over for objects would work. But trying to envision a non-grid based numeric volume system makes me ill, their would presumably have to be a scroll list of items (as we can now load an arbitrary number of small objects in anything) And a volume usage meter to record the total volume. And if we add the weight meter/score on top of that it would be even more confusing as their are now two separate things concepts numerically at the same time which is taxing.

Wait, does that mean having something like a list of items and "Volume: 28/35" . . . I think I'm going to be sick.

I think I would prefer something silly, like container z-levels.

Really I think the current system would be good with finer levels of item size. If a bar of metal makes 10 nuggets, a nugget shouldn't take the same amount of space as a bar. Four feathers should not take the same amount of space as a wood board, and a sword is not the same size as two coins of different metal. Perhaps if every space given in the inventory was divided into four spaces, sizes could be a bit more realistic. Another solution would be to make more things stackable (difficult with different q values, though).

Regarding carryable objects, why not? Pumpkins sure look bigger than wicker baskets or dream catchers. Though this would create more work for jorb because more things would need to be drawn, and it might require a big change to the way objects are handled in the computer box.
