Wolves would certainly be cool. And dogs for herding sheep and guard duties. Maybe the cats to counter rats, but rats are not a problem at all at the mo, so that's not very useful. :?

pets might be nice, but I wouldnt count on them having much of an AI

I think bear AI but only aggression to those who have just commit a crime would be appropriate. And never to their masters.
