I support trade, but what if noone lives near you so you cant trade?

This is not an excuse unless you're very, very lazy. I can cross my entire super-grid from left to right in about 30 minutes or less.

If you've got 2 whole days, go for Brodgar but I don't think their trading is setup. You'll find the cartography skill handy if you need to find your way there but most trading is done with neighbours. We've traded several chests of metal for linen and other goods with people who are a super-grid over.

There's also a forum here called "Apples For Oranges" that you might like to check-out.

How'd you find others with iron?

Lets say your a new town starting up, and you have a bronze mine. You're finished with most of the infrastructure and your top priority for now is a wall. You decide on a brickwall.
You dont know if there's a village with iron anywhere nearby, after hours of scouting around noone has found one yet.

Your post is as well, I dont say you should have everything. I know what hard work is. But lets say you have to use 1000's of bronze/copper/ whatever, no iron, instead of wrought iron and some steel. Wouldnt that be hard work as well?

Its impossible for some people to get iron, thats a fact and you can troll at it what you want.

My 2cents:

I agree that wrought only for corner posts is maybe a bit rough and allowing bronze as well, which is not that simple in itself, as you will need 2 copper + 1 tin to make bronze, might just make a little more sense.

That said however, wtf happens when you want to put your gate up and realise that you now need 5 steel for a brick wall gate - how do you ease this up a little?

Maybe brick corner posts should be cast iron or bronze and brick wall gates should be wrought iron or a semi-shit ton bronze?

Maybe that's too easy and will further discourage trade?

Edit: Either or recipies are not in place yet - so that would be an immediate obstacle in any case (after thought, sorry)

Depends how big a shit-ton we're talking about, but those are numbers and always need to be balanced anyway
