I think it would be a bit too easy to make a high Q bone knife, thanks to the awesome quality you get from bear bones. Metal sharp tools would be completely outclassed for a long long time.

I like the idea of a knife as a small, convenient sharp tool though, so that people don't have to carry swords just to skin animals.

You'd have to be high level enough to kill a bear though. In short, the bone knife Q would be capped by how good a animal you could kill.

Any noob with a sling and 10 marksmanship can kill a bear, it's just a matter of using the right tricks. And even with 1 survival you can collect Q100 bones from a Lvl X bear.

This is a good idea except it would be kind of awkward. The tool would be able to keep increasing it's own quality to a certain point. You skin something and make a knife, and then skin something better, which lets you make a better quality knife and so on. Which could be a while considering the cap between animals killed with high survival but skinned with a q10 axe.

bone q is not not dependent on tool q, only the animal q and your survival skill

yes, but then what q leather could you get? leather depends on water, hide, bark, tanning tub... and then making the knife would probably also be survival skill...

Huh? I could swear the OP said it was? What does tool Q affect? I do like the idea of basing bone knife max Q off of survival though.

tool q effects meat q and hide q (both are also effected by survival)

Thanks man.

I still kinda think the knife should require dried hide instead of leather, because it seems to me the entire idea is being able to make a good Q knife without Q100 supplies, just high level animals.

well, to me the point is 1. to make a tool that you don't have to have equipped, only in inventory/on a belt, to skin and butcher, 2. to make a tool that is easier to raise q than the stone axe

besides, skinning and butchering with stone axes, b12 axe, swords, and scythes (lol?) is just crazy

I'd say this idea works on both points admirably.
