This would work.

Lock change should only be possible by claim owner (if on claim) or lawspeaker (if not claimed but under village influence) - imho.

Both of these ideas seem good to me.
Also it should be possible to change the lock if you don't have the key on you.
It should require any metal but i know that keys were made from wood too.
It's kinda funny that you get a metal key when making palisade gate, no metal is required there.
It would be nice if you could make a wooden copy of a key - mines are scarce and not everybody have access to them and it even makes sense in reality. Past locks didn't look the same as the current ones therefore making them of wood was pretty much possible.

Since this game is based on a Hint of realism the point of stealing keys is the same as it is in the real world. If you are sneaky enought o steal a key then get in steal the stuff and get out. why wait for a long time to use it anyways.

And If i know (in real life) that my keys got stolen then i would change the locks. I the home owner.

I agree that no joe shmoe should be able to change the lock just because they have a key. Only the Lawspeaker and the Claim owner outside of a village.

Sure make it expensive But not crazy unreasonable.
