Then it's a cluster fuck and much hilarity ensues.
I'm not convinced that sort of thing should be completely prevented, if the enemy has good intel, or good luck, or you just picked dumb, common colors for your gang, then it's reasonable for people to get confused in a big brawl.

Before the Raeg wagon arrives, I'm not a PvP player, so however you guys end up resolving this doesn't impact me in the slightest, I'm just making observations and voicing opinions from off to the side

Yes, add this feature so I can go raid Bottleneck while wearing a Xanadu uniform. Just something you may wish to think about.

So? Anyone who would think that uniforms are a reliable way to tell group membership would be an idiot. And any smart group would rotate their uniforms, so the enemy can't wear the same thing in a raid.

Xanadu wouldn't ever have a uniform. Goons are sort of like herding cats. Although the idea of someone dressing up as a goon to attack BN does give me an amusing mental image of a overweight wheezing goon trodding up to BN while wearing a hoodie and an ironic T-shirt he bought off the net.

Uniforms and heraldry would be cool. So would flags. I don't think flags would be too hard to implement, and then satellite settlements could fly the flags of near-by villages to identify themselves and their protectors.

I think you can already achieve a good level of uniformity in your guys by all wearing the same equipment. It would be nice to be able to paint/dye stuff to further customize it, I'm pretty sure that would be all that is required though

Not so sure what is magical about being able to recognize people that you spend your daily (in game) lives with. Facial recognition is one of the earliest skills babies learn, after all...

Im in favor of both a "identify friends" toggle and uniforms/heraldry.

I concede that I didn't read it all, but just wanted to add my +1 to the principle.

I agree with your ideas guys.
On a sidenote I'd like pvp to be more common by removing permadeath from it.
