I agree that claims should expire, but oh god please no more decay. I don't think it's that pressing a need, really, so it can probably wait for the LP replacement update. Then we'll need a new system for claiming land in the first place, so might as well extend it to include claim expiration. I think best would be to bundle land claiming, claim maintenance and centralized repairs (Onion's decay shield) into one thing, and I suggested a shrine to domovoi for that before.

I created an alt as my 1st toon in this world and secured high q water with a personal claim. I logged in for the 1st time again when my main was killed just to see what was going on there.

I have not needed that alt, or the high q water since, so anyone who would want to simple check the q in there would need to leave summonable scents in the open.

So how many others have done this kind of thing too... I'm sure many. Decay is not the solution I agree completely, but there is a problem here.

May be dacay is not good idea, but i think all must have it`s lifetime.
And only online status is not the reason to keep claim alive as i said.

Claims need to decay per some mechanic to get rid of claims of characters that aren't playing anymore, if nothing else.

Yea seriously the world is filling up with abandoned villages/camps quite fast. It's not so much intentional use of Alts to claim stuff its all the players who legitimately build a little settlement and subsequently abandon it when they move to a new area or just stop playing. Wilderness spawning makes these types of camps a lot more common but it's also making the wilderness a lot less wild.

A claim should last longer then buildings though, by the time a claim disappears their should be literally nothing of value left inside it anyways. I don't see how people can go ballistic over losing claim over a patch of dirt that's completely reverted to nature. The goal should be to prevent urban-sprawl from robbing the world of its 'wild' feel, not punishing the player for not grinding. Crops and perhaps even pavement need to eventually disappear over the course of week or months to avoid an endless build up of clutter as was the case in the past world around the RoB, though I doubt this world will last long enough for things to get that bad.

And what if somebody have and alt for claim? He can log in once a month to keep it.
We should have 2 ways ti kick off old claims: online status (owner and all who have full access are 1 month off) and upkeeping (owner or his partner can push button «refresh timer»).

Which I wouldn't have a problem with. In fact, I think it should be possible to have several personal claims so as to remove the need for alts.

no, it's not

Wilderness spawning makes these types of camps a lot more common but it's also making the wilderness a lot less wild.

if they move, they move their claim, and everything they've built will decay eventually anyway. if they stop playing, how do you know they won't come back in a few weeks? the only thing that makes the wilderness less wild (i.e. effects animal levels) is a village.

A claim should last longer then buildings though, by the time a claim disappears their should be literally nothing of value left inside it anyways. I don't see how people can go ballistic over losing claim over a patch of dirt that's completely reverted to nature. maybe they claimed the patch of dirt because it was high quality? there are plenty of wild areas. where is there urban sprawl? i've certainly not seen it on this map. and no, crops and pavement shouldn't decay. abandoned crops are a great find for a new player. stone paving lasts hundreds of years.
