Super lame Idea, but It gives me a much better one that would allow vengeance from the grave but be much more awesome and consistent with the games philosophy.

I call it the 'Inigo Montoya' effect, their would be a new option on the adventure screen called 'vengeance' for any player who's ancestor was killed (might also require Ranger skill or a specific Vengeance skill). When toggled you are able to track your ancestors killer/killers heath continuously (like using dowsing rod) without needing scents. The effect can not be shared with others like a scent but never runs and can never be 'reset' to anyone but the killer. It dose not need to be selected in any special way when generating a new character, it will always be available to any character inherited from a murdered one. The requirement to get Ranger and the singular focus of the vengeance tracker would not obsolete the collection of murder scent as that will still allow immediate tracking and tracking of multiple peoples, while it would reduce the ability of a murderer to escape without consequences when it's not feasible for the victim or their friends to collect scent.

No, because then nobody who has killed someone would be able to hide. I have thought about things like blood feuds which could start when a decedent kills the murderer of his ancestor. This could allow people in each lineage to instantly recognize each other.

I thought about the ability to remove penalty if penaltee posesses "summon" scents of said ancestor. But scents tend to run out, so.. :(
This shouldn`t be applicable at all to the ancestor killed with scents, I suppose.
