Justice isn't the basis of a working society.

I misspoke whart makes a society run is that they know that if they break the law they will face justice, it's the fear of the law, not the law itself.

If people realize that there's no way to enforce justice then they will cease to obey the law, that's one of the problems with this game, griefers are allowed to go free far to often, and now they believe that they can do whatever they wan't without consequences.

Yeah but your idea makes sure that Justice is 100% guranteed.
What the devs and I want is for griefers and raiders to face a risk of being served by justice.
Therefore I repeat viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7140 <--this

While I am ambivalent on the addition of such justice mechanisms because most of what people are trying to stop is really warfare rather then crime. Crime is what happens between members of the same village and it is actually very rare in the game. But any mechanism that allows such retribution needs to be gradated on the TYPE of scent left, only murder should allow anything a extreme as execution, vandalism, theft and trespassing should all be lesser punishments such as pillory, branding or flogging.

Justice is not 100% guranteed. In order to summon someone you have to have a lot of their scents, even with a QL 100 post you still need scents adding up to 100 QL. This punishes people who go on rampages, not dtealthy thieves who swipe stuff and disapear into the night, perhaps lawspeakers totem should be affected by the severity of the crime (assault and murder count as higher QL than trespasding or theft). I actually think the thread you keep linking to is a great idea, but what would the world be like if when someone was murdered the cops would just say "well he got past the burglar alarm, we can't do anything about it"?

Justice is not revenge.
Justice is not a thing you can talk about completely objectively.

Do some reading on the concept. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justice

What does justice mean to you? What does it mean to other people? Who's model should Haven uphold and codify? Does it really need codification?
