the two biggest problems I see with forcing random spawn are:

1 - What do you do on a new map without any civ?

2 - Some people make their towns out in the wilderness and don't want new spawners nearby. How do you keep them happy? (do you keep them happy?)

1. New map can start with concentric circles radiating out from RoB. People start venturing out, and pretty soon the civ radius expands.

2. Expect them to walk to that wilderness location, like real pioneers.

1. Some people actually like spawning in uninhabited areas, slowly making it civilized and starting their own city. People probably wouldn't want this.

3. Remember, this game is based on history, so mythical beasts of any type are out of the question.

4. Do you mean regrowing from stumps? I don't think stumps normally grow back, but if you mean random tree spawning I guess it's okay since trees grow by themselves in real life.

Oh, ok, I think I misunderstood.

You want to go back to having an RoB...

Ok, I don't like that idea so much :P I think there should just be mechanics that reward people for grouping up, and reward groups for getting larger (there are some already, but more would be better)

What do you mean by that? I don't want to go back to having the RoB as the default spawn. I was just responding to the problem you raised of having spawning occurring in civilized areas in a new world. People would only spawn within a radius of the RoB initially, but very quickly civilized areas would expand, and with it so would the spawn area.

I read around the forums a lot, so I just heard it from some other users. Since everything in the game so far was based on real life and history, I assumed it was.

The devs are taking a toned down approach to fantasy elements, which I appreciate, but expect to see more beasties in the future.

We already have tree men, have you seen those? Trolls have been made up since half a year ago or so, but are yet to be implemented.

I'd love to see trolls, but trolls look like bears, except that they look like frigging hedges. Trolls need to be more troll-like and not look like giant bears that look like hedges.
