Far too many guys running around assuming that scents left on a claim means that thy need to step in and kill the 'perpetrator' when taking the time to find out if there really was a legitinate crime comitted should have been the 1st action.

Having a look at the village happened separately to finding the scents.

Additionally the abandoned claim was in the neighborhood.

That's how I rationalized it. I can totally see how you can make the connections that you make, but where there's a way of interpreting people's statements that makes them seem like reasonable people, well I try to make the effort to see it that way. Call me an optimist
