Same. While I do not want to see H&H getting all numbered up, I still want to see if i do _some_ damage. And while "states" would work nicely on animals, buildings would either require dozens of states or there would be too much damage between one state and the next. Maybe show some debris sprites whenever damage beyond soak is done?
Re-using the animal 'move' sprite (black powder flying?) would work great as a temporary measure.
Something specific would work great later on (not specific to the item, but specific to the type) as woodchips for wood items, the 'black char' for bricks/clay, and other items. It would complement states (only item needs a few) very well.
