Since it got such positive feedback, and because I'd like to see this feature, I'm bumping this.

Download the client source code,
add in third party IRC client,
add a window/tab that connects to an irc server and automatically joins #haven.VILLAGE_NAME_HERE,
convince everyone in your village to use your modded client.
You may need to spend a year or two learning how to program, but it's not really that hard, I thoroughly recommend giving it a try, even just for the lulz
