I know, I agreed with that, however I don't think a stockpile of 1 stick should be used to trap animals and I don't like seeing them scattered all over the country side.
That's OT though, not related.

nah, I'm definitely not a fan of your character leaving the game world in any way while he's fast traveling.
burgingham wrote:or you could watch your guy travel. But lets face it, who would do that? As in all tedious and repetetive tasks in this game I would just tab to my browser window and read something or watch a video. Never even noticing if some guy at the side of the road would be yelling at me that he sells gold for apples.
Personally I've often got a browser open BESIDE my game window pretty much whenever I play. No matter what I'm doing. If I see unexpected movement on the screen I switch back.
How big is your monitor? How crazy is your game window res? do you not have two monitors? I play at a res of about 1/2 a 1920x1200 on a 24" monitor, plent of space for both.
Maybe I'm atypical in that aspect?
burgingham wrote:With the current system I can just teleport to Nople and always find somebody to chat or trade with.
really? Last time I went to nople I found it completely empty. I also had no sense of where nope was in relation to soddom, and in general didn't feel like I'd traveled far at all.
burgingham wrote:The time it takes to build a meaningful infrastructure was already mentioned by avu.
The specific time taken is not specified by my proposal. What would be appropriate? What would be inappropriate? How long did people spend building soddom?
burgingham wrote:Nobody would build roads crossing several supergrids and you just cannot rely on having people nearby who can trade you for everything.
Probably not, however I think it's reasonable for people to build roads to their neighbors. I can see multiple neighbors connecting to each other and making a string of towns. Those little towns might actually benefit from having some more traffic going through them (again security issues raises its ugly head, but shouldn't we be trying to deal with that rather than working towards isolating everyone more?)
burgingham wrote:So while I agree that a better distribution of ressources is necessary and would improve trade your idea kinda goes for the total inabillity to have everything no matter how much effort you put into it, just because you spawned at the wrong end of the map.
I don't see that as a necessary result of my solution. Does teleporting really allow people to cross the entire hearthling map in its current implementation in one hop? Or are you going between places?
burgingham wrote:One last thing: What about inner city teleportation? It would be annyoing as fuck to have that removed.
Really? How much of that do you use?
Your plot to the village center(it's a really short trip man, shorter for you than me)
Your plot to the gate? (get a cart, have boats on carts or some better boat implementation)
It might be slightly less convenient than the current setup, but I think you'd have to be pretty impatient to find it terribly onerous.
burgingham wrote:On a related note we would need a new village management system when this ever should see the light of day. Satellite towns would be necessary, as well as the already mentioned change of gate mechanics.
I can see why gates would need changing. Why satellite towns? so you can get claims on rest stops?
I like potjeh's notion of kingdom claims.
