steel? I'd say wooden beams. Don't think they would use steel just to build a house.

100 clay for the foundation.
200 bricks for the walls.
10 steel for support structures.
50 boards for roof beams.

Does that sound fair?

Why steel?

If you really wanted to use a metal it should be cast iron imo.

Hmm... it's 25 bricks at a time... how about 500 bricks for the walls, 40 planks (for the roof supports), and 200 "tiles"- tiles being made by shaping one lump of clay into two tiles which are then baked. In order to avoid the problem of having a one-use item, tiles should be possible to use somewhere else, possibly as flooring.

That oughta be tough enough to be worth the great big giantness of this place.

Also, how about a fieldstone house that takes 400 stones, 20 planks, and 100 units of hay for a thatched roof? It would be only about the size of a current house- perhaps a tile larger or smaller- which would be good for storage or just variety. Maybe have the door on the other side.

Oh, say, what about the Inn of Brogdor? Why not be able to build that?
Surprise.

I'd like a house that faces the other way. Or to be able to rotate all buildings.
Would give towns much more customization.

I don't know why people get into such specifics in this forum. Have you ever seen a super specific idea implemented by the devs exactly the way someone layed it out?
i guess they never miss huh

Mansions and large homes or other buildings often have steel and concrete as main "ingredients." (the word seemed right). I think there definitely should be ways for us to get to higher levels of technology eventually. For now, perhaps stone is better.
