Saying you don't want the wines based off of terrain is ridiculous.
It's one of the entire points behind my post, and real life farmers grow their wines in specific regions for how the grapes turn out.
The reason we have different grapes is because they grew in different areas. Now I doubt the Devs want to try and make it based off of where you are in the map, since the world isn't static, so this is the next best answer.

I'd love to see some wine (and beer, and hard liquor) variation. But I think that terrain blobs are too small and too close together to be the thing to base it on. Something the size of the base terrains (coniferous/deciduous) is more like it. We'd need more base terrains, though, and preferably some should never border some others (ie always have foothills between plains and mountains etc.). That'd have to wait for the next map, though, so terrain blobs could be an acceptable stand-in until then.

Yes, this is one thing I have thought of as well.
I, along with many others, would like fractal maps.
But of course, that's another discussion.
