Sigh, as over-used as this example is, try putting yourself in the shoes of a "younger" you. You wouldn't want all your crap stolen when you were beginning, wouldn't you? This method itself does not PREVENT thieves from stealing at all, it only prevents it when the player is there to catch them, isn't that what happens irl too? When you see a thief, he usually'll try to slink back and act innocent as to avoid detection.... or just grab your shit and run.....
"Normal" is only a difficulty level in video games - Aso11
Jackard: Koya only raises the lynx so he can molest it later
Koya: What means "molest" ? Translator cannot translate it or do it with no logics...
"And no im not native to english, I was born in the usa." - A very bad troll.

You understand what I was talking about then, Theives are free to do as they please, hell, had I the time to dedicate to thievery, I would wholehartedly rob everything not nailed down (a la morrowind) I just suggested a nonviolent way for players who are present during the theivery process to attempt to save themselves. Hence the suggestion that it increases YOUR travel weariness along with the thieves. perhaps something else, it would need a definate drawback to removing someone from your land. I understand the stuff I had can probably be replaced easily, or at least with a few more hours of gameplay, but the value of items vary greatly depending on how long you have been playing the game. I consider a pumpkin to be a gift from the gods :D. Whereas a seasoned player probably wouldn't mind losing one or two.

Mostly I suggested this as a means for nonviolent players to protect themselves to an extent, not as a insta-kick against any thieves. You worked hard for the stats, you deserve to steal whatever you want (And J&L and implemented a great system with the scents for dealing with repercussion on that) But I think people present during the ransacking of their own house should be able to do SOMETHING about it.

I didn't expect such an outcry against my suggestion, but hey, everyone has their own opinions. :D

no they are not, just 2 days ago i ripped one to pieces, how? because i worked myself up, i started with a fishing rod(incomplete), 5 pieces of bread, a dream and some linen clothing, JUST LIKE YOU. only difference is i put effort in. you have no right for any kind of protection other then what others or yourself can get. "but i got no chance to defend myself", nor did i, in fact i lost my char a month ago, i am now the lawspeaker of a 40 members strong town.

i have no advantage over you in this game other then personal skill, dont punish me for being better if i decide to rob your shit.

oh and to claim your stuff you need a 4k lp skill, costly for a new player, even a weak thief can claim their stuff, destroy the new persons hearth fire and then "kick" the new player land into some random part of the world. so your whining is not about those poor new people, its about YOUR OWN SELFISH WHINING.

Some of you are forgetting that the noob stage is a critical and delicate stage.
If a noob is bullied they leave... forever, but an older player won't quit over a minor drawback.

The OP has a good idea. Stealing should be different to raiding.
Thieves don't steal in front of their victims faces, they use stealth and timing if an owner catches them onsight they should leave.
However when you raid you can do whatever you like, such as killing and destroying objects. There really needs to be a distinction between those two offences.

Someone had a great idea a while back;

If you are going to steal you can climb over a palisade with a rope, but obviously you cant climb walls with heavy armour or swords.
But when you raid you can smash right through the wall and do whatever without fear of being kicked.
This combined with the OP's idea and this guys idea be great and solve many problems.

I get the impression that this game is trying to be as realistic as possible; by allowing thieves and murderers into the claim in the first place if they get the trespassing/vandalism skill. In real life it is reasonable to expect pillagers especially to a lone farm or even village. So it is unlikely that they will implement something to kick the trespasser off your land just by clicking.
What I propose is the addition of more realistic defenses. There may be guard dogs for example as previously suggested by another poster:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6615
The game can allow people to breed guard dogs which can bark to alert the owner, and which can also guard the claim and can be set on the trespasser.

I agree with Brickbreaker that the noob stage is really critical; if noobs are attacked early on and they become discouraged they simply quit which I think would be bad for the overall game for us (more populated world => more trade => more economy => more civilization)
