Since when do the devs do resurections on request?

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

I have no interest in stealing your account or anyone Else's.

Gato: To me it was only a rumor. Not something I would consider without evidence. My comment was directed solely at the point that if you wanted to keep playing...

Burg: I don't know Avu. As far as his personal demeanor goes, I could care less.

Potjeh: The examples given were simply a rebuttal to those claiming Rage was at fault for not doing enough.

So yeah, anyway. Maybe the next time this happens in whatever form the reaction will actually attempt to solve the problem. H&H is a good game. It needs to be protected more.

I fail to see how Loftar could've done anything to prevent this from happening.

If you have any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. I think the game is rather secure from a technical standpoint, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be improved, obviously.

Your talent, Loftar, is better used developing the game. This event should be so less significant than its been treated.

Just my two cents here, flame them or don't.I have a bachelors in computer science and currently have my ccna working on my ccnp(taking the test in a few weeks). I am by no means an expert on network security, but I am also not ignorant of the subject. Account compromises will happen, they happen all the time, even to people who think that their computer/home network is "secure". Every other mmog I've played has had some sort of account/character recovery process. It seems kind of fucked up that the policy at this point is just to delete the perpetrator and the victim? I've never played a game that uses this policy, nor do I think I would want to pay for one that does. The fact that you think people will take advantage of a policy that recovers "hacked" (as seems to be the popular term) accounts is outweighed by the need to have one? People take advantage of government programs to feed and house the poor every day in countries all over the world, does that mean it's not worth helping the people who do need this assistance? I personally think not. Greed is part of human nature, so is compassion and empathy. Punishing a lot to not help a few seems well for lack of better word, stupid. Like I said, let the flames and trolls commence!

Hacking is a RL crime and needs to be dealt with by RL police.

1. Yeah your whole argument seems to be based on a lack of either reading comprehension or the will to go through the whole thread. There was no real perp/victim relationship here.

2. Permadeath

3. I have often thought that comparisons with way more serious issues to underline ones argument fail, this is a good example (feeding the poor etc.)

k, there you got your "flames"

1. I know the situation and I think you are incorrect, there was a per/victim relationship here, just not in the conventional sense maybe.

2. Permadeath is a fine mechanic when used within game boundaries. Also with the huge consequence of death that would make character/account recovery even more important than other games without permadeath.

3. The problem was that you thought? Metaphors/Comparisons are a commonly used method of relating one situation to anther so you can see the situation in a different light. Your argument is purely subjective.

Yes i did get flames :D and faster than I expected.. Huray for server downtime.

A key difference is that other MMOs don't have permadeath, h&h does. In most games the only way you can lose your character is if the account holder intentionally deletes it. In this case it might be clear that Rage's account was compromised, since Gato confessed, but in principle if I gain control of your account, it would be simple to take your character to Constantinople an attack random people until Sodom sends a squad to kill me. Your character is gone and there is no way to prove that it wasn't you controlling him.

You could try to point out that the character was logged in from a different ip address than usual, but if that's allowed as proof of a compromised account, you can be damn sure people will log in through a proxy, do lulzy shit that gets them killed and then demand a resurrection claiming they have been hacked.
Once a man has changed the relationship between himself and his environment, he cannot return to the blissful ignorance he left. Motion, of necessity, involves a change in perspective.
