Make them spawn in groups and if one attacks they all attack. And if they knock you down they eat you.

Hey, here`s an idea: add dogs but make`em purely decorative. They`re living in a doghouse, need to be fed with raw meat and they bark. They bring no profit, ofc.

Well obviously there would be ways to trick them just like there are any wild animal, since they'd just use a mashup of wild animal ai and since any ai in any game is pretty easy to trick. The whole point is a small pack would discourage low level raiders, a single good dog would discourage noob scavengers (if you could store them in the item slots on wagons and have them attack anyone who opens the wagon it would be pretty funny... honeytrapping would explode though :D) and a gigantic pack would discourage vet raiders (especially if you could somehow make them attack in groups, combining their damage against armor soak, which would make sense since a guy in armor against a large pack of pissed off attack dogs is pretty much screwed unless he's wearing some magical suit of armor that has no gaps and no friction points or angles at all for them to latch on to. Chain mail and plate with leather leggings would just slow you down and encourage them to kill you from the crotch up). Sure they wouldn't stop some of the people with massive stats, but neither does a wall or a building or anything else but another high level player. This is highlander online, or didn't you know? ;)

Doghouses, and dogs only come out if they have a target they can path to.

Hahaha, yes! And/or maybe make it like Call of the Wild where these dogs even fight each other.

As for people saying they should attack chickens, I think it would be more appropriate for them to attack the foxes that attack chickens. What good would it do you to have your own dog thwart your attempts to obtain live chickens?
Maybe they could help you track scents and blah blah I'm sure every good idea's already been mentioned.

Kennels sounds like a big building where you keep a bunch of dogs together. Doghouse sounds like it's for a single dog, so you can deploy them individually where you want them.

Then again, I could be wrong about the word kennels, I'm not a native speaker.
