The only objection I have about this, is you don't know what effects food will have, until you eat it. I don't see why that shouldn't be the case in the hearthlands either?
The only reason I can really see for this is to help you determine what food to eat to "finish off" your FEP bar, so you don't waste a rich food on the remaining FEPs needed. Well why not alleviate that waste, since you ate the food anyway, its effects would still be used by your body regardless. Do this by rolling over FEPs when you level. I guess you can't do this though, newbies would gain like 10 stat levels off a single HQ specialized food. Perhaps roll over excess FEPs only up to 25% of your FEP bar? But that adds a bunch of unneccesary things to keep track of, etc.
I guess the one complaint is just the immersion aspect. One of the fun things is discovering the little details; you lose that when everything is listed numerically for you. I know that's some people's cup of tea, to turn MMOs into spreadsheets so they can line all their numbers up perfectly, but personally that's not my style. I'm mainly playing Devil's Advocate here, though, and don't care either way (not that my opinion matters anyway). The developers know what they want and the veterans are much more able to give reasonable input than I.
