So true between the Lost Caverns and the old goons. Look where we are now.

You are playing the wrong game, dude.
Alsehr wrote:Until HNH can provide an alternative for non-hardcore players, I think I'll be playing a different game until this is ratified.

Thank god.

I find this idea too silly to comment on.

In short, this game is not for you.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.

I hate to bring it up, because I can tell that a hundred people will be in here yelling about how much they love murder and theft, but I feel like it's an issue that should be addressed, even if it doesn't get changed. In my opinion, the skillset and stats seem to encourage players to murder new players.

In what way? I'll confess I'm more the sort of long term player whose combat abilities are more comparable to those of your average chicken, however what advantage do I gain from murdering a random n00b I find out in the wilderness? What "encouragement" is there? Sure, the n00b himself can't respond but someone else can. That's the risk you run in this game. Sure, that n00b you're attacking now might be an easy kill but that high level Ranger who's looking for someone to track can now enoy your fine scent of murder.

Alsehr wrote:They encourage vandalism and theft. If you can get high enough stealth and jump to the other side of the worldmap, you're basically given free reign to do whatever you feel like.

This simply isn't true. Black Helicopter Base was wiped off the map.

Alsehr wrote:I'm not unbiased, because I've only been playing for a short while, but already I've had multiple players harrass, vandalize and threaten murder on my village claim.

Sometimes that's just the luck of the draw. For example, I've not had similar run ins. No-one I've ever walked into (even high level guys in Dragon Armour) haven't murdered me for shits 'n giggles.

Alsehr wrote:It's not easy to build an army and defend your claim, either.

No, nor should it be.

Alsehr wrote:When it comes right down to it, the game encourages players to steal and murder.

Once again you claim this but where is your proof? Just because you say something doesn't make it true.

Alsehr wrote:But, anyone living near large settlements full of players who enjoy harrassing can usually do nothing to stop it.

If you live near a large settlement full of players who enjoy harrassing, then you're living near the wrong settlement. My advice is to move. Find a large settlement of players who are nice and live near them. I suggest Sodom. I'm not saying they're help you if you do get murdered but they're not the types to annoy you.

Alsehr wrote:I propose: Either tone back crimes in the game so that it's not so easy for someone to murder new players, (And don't start flaming here, I know how much LP it takes to get murder and I got that much in a week. Too easy.)

As Jorb said in the thread that was linked to, why? A new player has so little to lose. You said so yourself, that you could easily get enough LP for murder in a week. If you can get that much LP in a week, then you can setup your farm again very easily. In fact, if you're raking in that much LP, I suggest you spend some of that time getting trade goods for metal so you can build brick walls. According to you, that would prevent anyone from ever attacking you and you would be perfectly safe.

Alsehr wrote:The truth is that it's too easy to bash a palisade, break into someone's village and murder them without provocation.

... and others would argue its too easy for a large group of Rangers to track those scents down, break into the Murder Fort responsible and kill all the murderers.

Alsehr wrote:Please, intelligent discussion only.

I want to hear what it is you think you've lost and your own assessment as to how much time it would take for you to recover. Hell, I can remember my first time moving a village. We took *everything* because we thought we needed it. In the end, it stayed in cupboards because it was easier to just get new shit over there.

I'd also like to know what it is you think "encourages" high level players to wantonly rape and murder n00bies. Most of the threads I've seen in Congress have all had a nice player retaliate an unfair or unjust murder at some point.

Alsehr wrote:Until HNH can provide an alternative for non-hardcore players

That alternative already exists. As I said, find a nice group of players (gosh, you may have to like, talk to your neighbours and develop good relations with them). Don't associate or keep company with asshats as your chances for death rise astonomically. Build a Brick Wall around your village (or at least a Pallisade to stop random wanderers). Even a simple small enclosure will suffice until you can expand it later. You'll be pretty safe then and unlikely to ever be attacked.

Unless you piss someone off that is...
