Allow players to use the shovel to bury chests (containers) and they'll stop degrading for a fixed period of time.
A parchment would be needed to write down a "treasure map" plot.

This leads to treasure hunting maybe...

Even trades could work out well if you know treasure locations and sell the maps...

To stop custom clients from messing this up, after hiding the treasure on the 3x3 tile, it vanishes after a ingame day, making it impossible to see or detect using xray etc.
You'd have to use the shovel to dig at the spot in order to find it exactly. When you bury something, dirt will appear on top of it. You'll then have to plant grass on it to cover it up, but generally you'd be better off burying stuff on grass than forest.

to the original post
spec-fucking-tacular idea
by this man a drink

to the dude with the treasure idea
i doubt that it would have a great effect and would mainly be used more for fun, but you still gotta enjoy the little things

Do want. I'm using my cellar as a cemetery at the moment, and graves would be fitting.

Sazed wrote:I like the idea a lot, but it seems to lack incentive to bury someone with their belongings. The only thing it does is preserve them if someone else comes along and tries to loot them, so you're basically building something with the intent of having it vandalized. Perhaps when you bury someone, sort of like when you dig them up, you get a portion of their LP as a sort of "Reward" for honoring their remains, and if you bury them intact with all their items the reward is much greater?

i belive that if grave digging/robbing is added to the game, (which it should be, genious idea)
the reward, instead of LP, would logically be numen points

Burying for numen points is a win. +1. Once they have more of a magic system it would be great. You could bury someone without their items, but that would be less numen.

spot on, this also just gave me the idea of a funeral pyre, which would fit the settings of this game, place an undecayed body on a bonfire (or create an actual building called a funeral pyre) and light it up, you could feast to remember the dude/dudette, and all involved would gain numen points.
mabye only a lawspeaker could burn a chieftain and everyone else has to be buried, maybe not

bump.

perhaps idea would be compatible with the stone shrine in this thread viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11362&start=0&hilit=runestone+changes+messages+lines

you build the stone shrine with dreams, stones, bones and perhaps some bronze bars.

the shrine has a radius, the higher q of the shrine ((average Q of all involved)+(dex+char/2)) <if that would be reasonable.>

where was i, yes the higher Q of the shrine the greater its radius.
the point of this radius, when a person is buried inside the radius, the descendant <if there is one> gains 5 numen.
the one to bury him gains 3 numen, and the person who digs the grave gains 2 numen.

to be buried within the radius, the deceased must first "belive" <have ancestral worship> otherwise they will be denied the privelage of burial at the shrine.

the dead can be <do not know the proper english wording> "prepared for death"??
this is dressing the dead in a set of clothes, for now called "the final garments"
the higher Q of these garments the better numen <all of the above numen was a base, modified by the "final garments"

when a grave is robbed using theft, the robber not only gains "the final garments" but also a small portion of the deceased's non-incrementable<the strength etc> stats. <depends on your trad/change slider??>
you cannot rob your ancestors.

"the final garments" in my head are:

a family heirloom. <jewelery>
a burial mask <gray clay x 5, bronze nugget x2 <the coin over eyes thing> jar of ink/bloodstern to make red dye, jar of ink mixed with any bark to make brown dye
a black suit < silk cloth x4, ash x4, yarn x4
black leggings <silk cloth x 3, ash x3, yarn x3
black boots <leather x2, wool x2, ash x2 silk cloth x1

and thats all i can think of atm

+1. it would only need some limiters, e.g. numen gain = corpse LP / 10,000 or even 100,000, rounded down, to prevent mass shallow graves of alts.
maybe some tweaking to the procedure - similar to digging for clay or soil, digging a grave should put soil or stones (for cave / mine / mountains) into the inventory, but drain stamina faster. dig out some, and you get an empty ditch, where you can place the corpse. place the deceased / coffin / mummy / whatever inside, then fill up with earth, stones, bricks, gold etc.
