Historical point, Vikings did take/trade for thralls from quite far away, and they could become more or less full members of society at times. So people of other ethnicities were certainly around. One might argue the game takes place in an earlier era, though tea, tobacco, etc. would be a point against that.

In salem it would make more sense.althoug most non white people would be salves or servants, but you have some options.runaway slave/maroon, indian( but I heard they will be non-playable), maybe a british colonial soldier from india or africa

You know the first thing they do when they 'base' things on philosophies, histories, and aesthetics from the non Western world? They work out a way give it a white protagonist, or they move it in time and space so that people can be White. See Star Wars, The Last Samurai, The Matrix, most comic book heroes who know martial arts, or the Last Airbender Film.

I garuntee that any MMO that came out with a ninja theme would allow you to pick a white character. Just as any one that knows what it's doing lets you play any skin tone be you a pirate.

I'd also like to suggest that REAL history might not be as whitewashed as peopel think. Isn't China next to Russia? Didn't Hannibal basically shortcut through northern Europe and lose a stuffload of African deserters who made homes there in the process?

I'm only going to say this ONE more time - GTA:SA is set in a VERY specific time period and tells a VERY specific story. It's a totally different manner of roleplaying to persistent online world with emergent social organisation.
I'm not uncomfortable playing a White person. If 99% of games had strong Black characters in them and didn't play on stereotypes, I'm sure I'd feel the same way you feel playing CJ

Plus, the fantasy standards are all based, however unconsciously, on historical ideas about race. Dwarves are strong and honourable but a little too traditional and volatile and clear proxies for the way urban English felt about the rest of the UK, for example.

As for the Orcs - dark skinned hordes of savages armed with spears and rough axes who live in tents? Often in a medieval 'based' world which conveniently pits them against whites. I'd never play a shitty orc unless the people who built the world were sufficiently postmodern to deconstruct and avert this stuff by doing something new and interesting with them.

It's got real magic, dreamcatchers, and everbody seems to have just built up their societies together as if it's in a neolithic time, and I belt half of them have stupid names. None of this breaks your immersion in the thematic zone, but seeing a pine tree and a brown face on the same screen has you swearing and arguing?

Stupid Names and paved penis do break my immersion, if I could do something about it, I would.
Its not like I would stop playing HnH if they allowed black or brown characters, I just don't like that idea for reasons I mentioned before.

Edit: You don't get to do that. You don't get to directly tell people they should GTFO, swear at them, tell them how they should interpret and see things, tell them that the way they feel is fucked up, and then try to explain it in a way which is meant to humiliate them for messed up logic or priorities, and then say don't take it personal.
