I made 800,000+ on the last day of the old map.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

Its simple enough, you start small, farming at full change building up the skills that you do need to kill higher level animals.
At around unarmed level 40 you have no problem with foxes on the main(the land not cut off by rivers) in this map.
Even melee level 60 or so and you can take most of the boars, if you have a shield its easier.
You don't even need a sword or other fancy weapon, stone axe and a shield, you can take down a bear with enough melee(and stats of course).

And then now with the quality system, I'm pretty sure producing higher quality goods grants more LP
