actually, the real issue with charter stone is not in the system itself, imo.
when the world is riped enough for a few powers to arise with firm will and forces, a charter village for new players does have a potential.
Sodom made Constantinople and BN made Samarkand on world 3 as market places, perhaps they could have gone far enough to make their REAL charter villages for its original purpose if they really wanted and didnt mind taking huge risks, and if there arent easier options to recruit players.

what the charter stone system is waiting for may not be the system change, but for a number of potential willing players to actually utilize the system. so, if you actually wanna bother trying it, best of luck to you.

p.s.
but let me warn you once again, there were a few charter villages on w4 too.

regardless of whether or not charter stones are good or not, it's a pretty good idea to merge the exits and have an interface.

Hue. I'm probably missing something. ... Why ?

What wrong with the Trap-door (given other locations by others) and Old-Geaser (known personal HF/HS).
And Ladder for default game entrance. Wilderness, or Inherited character location. (keep forgetting if the latter is HF bound)

Is H&H not about taking note of objects on you path ... same seems to be in effect here to.
Any newbee mystification here could also be handled by a good Startup/"New Character"-screen documentation text/screenshot. Or maybe even with a overlay help screen ... Change Gender here ->, Change Name here ->, etc.

OP is right, combining the possible spawns would make it more new-user friendly.

I never would've done it because I like trees.

because the current system is needlessly obtuse, and the charterstone and hearth secret spawns were tacked on

But really, unless there's some MAJOR changes I don't see why anyone would ever want newbies to spawn at his village. It's basically a Summon Locust spell that you can only cast on your own fields.
