Hmm, if that's the case then I have no problems with the current system (and am slightly curious as to why people are feeling the need to put massive claims on mountains and swamps lately).

I remember hearing something about foraging leaving vandal scents this world but never bothered to check the issue myself. Thanks for the clarification.

Though I don't agree with the implementation, I agree with the sentiment. It should take some kind of upkeep to maintain a claim. The larger the claim, the more upkeep it should take. The way it is right now, once a claim get's big enough, it is nearly impossible to remove it with a village, and the claim will never go away by itself. So if the person quits, that claim will be there until the end of the world.

W3 there was a modest claim on a village we had taken over. It took weeks of work building statues and flags to get enough authority to remove it. This world there are claims easily 10 times as large. With a village, if you kill all it's members it will quickly run out of authority. With a simple alt that only logs in for a couple seconds a day, this is nearly impossible.

to be honest the 10 LP cost per tile and 250 auth cost to revoke probably needs to be tweaked.

Why are claim markers still indestructible?

We've got pallis and brick walls now that work for the physical protection, so why not allow people to use battering rams or whatever to break peoples claims, why does it have to be villages and authority?

If someone expends the resources (both LP and steel) to create a claim and protect it, then sure let them try to defend it.

Another potential option would be to add some new sort of non summonable tracking scent that can be gathered from the claim totem.
If you can track the owners hearth fire you can perform a ritual on it with the scent that revokes the claim as if the owner did it himself.

That way gives you the ability to find out who owns the claim, as well as the owners a way to protect their claims that may not be on well protected village lands (just protect your hearth).

Errata:
If the owner doesn't have a hearth you can just perform the ritual on the claim post.
Scents are bound to the pole not the owner, if the owner creates a new claim all your old scents are useless
Revoking someone elses claim leaves a summonable scent, it's a pretty full on agressive action

and then, while you're griefing, you can simply leave one scent to remove the claim instead of spamming scents all over the place if you want to cause trouble :D
srsly, it should be possible but a huge pain in the ass to remove a claim
maybe declaiming could be done in pieces?
