Though I don't agree with the implementation, I agree with the sentiment. It should take some kind of upkeep to maintain a claim. The larger the claim, the more upkeep it should take. The way it is right now, once a claim get's big enough, it is nearly impossible to remove it with a village, and the claim will never go away by itself. So if the person quits, that claim will be there until the end of the world.
W3 there was a modest claim on a village we had taken over. It took weeks of work building statues and flags to get enough authority to remove it. This world there are claims easily 10 times as large. With a village, if you kill all it's members it will quickly run out of authority. With a simple alt that only logs in for a couple seconds a day, this is nearly impossible.
