While that may be true in theory, they are quite different in practice. The greatest difference when rendering 3D is that drawing commands can be batched (thanks to the depth buffer), which speeds things up by orders of magnitude. The 2D model of the Haven client requires precise control over the drawing order, so batching is not really possible. I'm rather sure that is what causes the greatest amount of performance problems in the Haven client.

Does this mean Salem will have much less lag due to it's 3D nature?

So far, it seems very much like it.

Yes it needs precise control of drawing as a lot of isometric games.
There is a simple trick to this: all tiles that there are no characters or animals and hold multiple sprites (like plants: wheat, carrots,...) can pre-render sprites into one sprite and after that render it. But I think that could be easily done in Ender client if he has some time to do it :)

Wow. You seem pretty knowledgeable about OGL programming. Maybe you could show us how it's done with code samples.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

You, know, it feels a bit unfair to have been playing for bout a year, and have a "Joined: Tue May 24, 2011 3:04 pm" stamp

i really dont see why people choose not to use their first account and still have to feel unfair for their own choice.

i really dont see why people make conclusions based on general forum mechanics, even if they are told different.

Forum account here is created upon first time you enter the forum. meanwile, when you create an account and only enter the game, no forum account would be created untill you enter the forum itself. So, as i told before, "This date on right is a forum joining date, not the game joining.".

PS: This is my first and the only account on H&H. Created in mid w3.

I live in East Canada and I can tell you there is lag where I am!
I looked at my PC ram and all that. It's a farley new computer and I don't see any problems on my end so I don't think it's on my end or at least not that I can see. Besides I play many games on different servers and I have never experienced the lag I get with Haven and Hearth.
It's really a shame because it's a really good game but the lag makes it really hard to play.

Usually I get a lag every 15 sec to 30 sec or so that lasts from 5 sec to 30 sec. Moving my guy is painful to watch. Sometimes I have to click 5 or 6 time to his next destination to make sure he gets the command. when he walks during lag time he keep walking in a strait line paying no attention to building a cliffs (just walks right through) and when lag ends he jumps back where he was when lad started or dose the walking motion but stays in the same place. Also the game will not respond to anything during that time.

I spend more time experiencing lag that actually playing the game :(
I know it's a free game and good games like this one are just amazing but lag should be the # 1 thing to look at when providing a game. Lag makes game really unpleasant to play.

But maybe I am one of the unlucky ones with bad lag for what ever reason
I was reading and it looks like some people have very little lag and others have it bad.
I cloud be the routing to the server and not a PC or a server problem. If that’s the case then not mush can be done. :? Right :?:

P.S: sorry for any spelling mistakes, dyslexia is a b@ch!!!!

Not to be an ass or anything but these people. The people that nobody knows and their first post on the forums is insulting the game. And honestly the game is lagging pretty bad for me too, but if you ask me the complete epicness and strategy in the game is worth it. But hey thats my opinion.
