A suggestion I'd like to run by is three-digit key-less combination lock. We wouldn't need to worry about jails, because anyone could break it eventually. There still would be a lockpicking skill, of course.

Combination locks are an interesting idea, it might not really fit the technology level in the game. It might be nice to have lock picking bring up such a thing so as to apply a non-trivial timer to the action.

Yeah, I like that idea. Lock picking in "The Hobbit" (yeah, I know, I did play the animated Hobbit game) was a complicated matter that was relatively easy, but took a little time and thought. It was almost a minigame sometimes, but often it was simply guessing a short combination.

Locksmithing

Postby Kegas » Mon May 31, 2010 5:45 am

What do you think guys? Not a major change but the ability to lock household doors, roundpole gates and maybe chests/cupboards?

Craft a padlock from metal, and a key from a nugget. Shape the key by right clicking on the lock. Right click-drop the lock on any container or entrance.

A bit of grief potential, but thats why you lay claims right? :)

I'd love seeing more things under Basic Mechanics and Locks & Bolts in general. (This particularly sounds like a great idea; Except you'd probably use a nugget instead of the key to mold it)

This seems like it would need the other side of the equation to not be too powerful and more interesting in general: lockpicking. Though I don't know, I guess you could just destroy the cupboard/chest/whatever to smash it open too.

haha, using metal to lock roundpole fences. What have you done jorb? First the newbs had no metal now they are so rich the want to just throw the stuff away.

Truthfully, if you locked a roundpole fence I would break through it just to see what you think is so valuable. Should only take 1 or 2 hits max.

theres a temp fix that will let you lock things from your side. drop a runestone or something similar in front of the door. Someone walks in, gets stuck, then they have to teleport away.
i would love to see locks and lockpicking, and also some more violent ways (like breaking down a door).
