I recommend reviewing this thread when taking into consideration the above.

It is possible to effectively mint a coin if a group has a decided upon quality to go for for their minimum coin denomination. Silver and gold do not carry a quality, so Steel, Wrought Iron, Iron, Bronze, Copper and Tin coins will need to be what's decided upon as the smallest denomination in addition to its quality.

The thread I gave a link to suggest Steel coins Q<17.

Through Quality of fuel manipulation, and the Kiln and of the rest of the metallurgic process you're then creating a specialized system for the said group's mint.

problem with that is anyone can come along and mint a coin in the same metal at the same quality...forgery is what this whole thread is about preventing. by adding a way to mark a coin as made by a certain person or mint then theres a way to know you have a real coin from said village/person and not a forgery.

In the real world we had the gold standard, which based its "value" on the ammount of gold that was kept in store. In this game it seems that pearls are the most valuable item.
How about the biggest village stored a certain ammount of pearls and based on that issued a certain ammount of gold per pearl. From that we can derive values of silver and copper coins. We would ofcourse need to be able to stack coins. (Maybe unlimited stacks?) The last issue is perhaps what stands in the way of this becoming a reality.

If we could have unlimited stack of coins, people would put all their metal into coins, then just transform it back when they needed to use the metals.

ie have 100500 bars worth of coins in one space in a cupboard.

Solution is makin 1 bar for 100 coins and 110 coins to one bar.

Then no one would use coins as you're bleeding yourself by 10% for no reason other than roleplay.

Realistically no system of creation is perfectly efficient. You do lose material when shaping them into new things.

Why noone can find this USEFULL? With dat coins, offline 24/7 trading can be done. Just put 50 coins for pearl and 20 coins for fsam in a barter stand, and put items for coins in a barter stand . WHOA TRADING BB. Everyone can come, buy/sell, and your trading alt is offline all that time.

People will make coins using their own metal, and then buy all your items without selling you a single pearl or flotsam. Alternatively if you offer tons of coin for pearls, people will take the coins and make bars, and you'll quickly find yourself spending more time mining for coins than you would collecting the equivalent amount of pearls yourself.

Ah, missed that, apologies.
Personalized coins might actually be useful, if they're backed by a strong economy :)
