-Imprisonment: Absolutely.
This way minor offenses can be punished via something OTHER than the death sentence.

-Slavery: No.
No explanation needed.

For the love of God...

Postby Teh_Az » Fri May 14, 2010 3:05 pm

...please give us slavery as an in-game feature!

Ideally, I would want NPCs you could order around to gather resources for you, are at least chop down trees with and treat like packmules. Then, you could have them fed and stuff. They'd be waring slave collars, and for as long as they are wearing it, they follow your orders.

My idea for the mechanics of this is this. Think of Slavery as an alternative to murder. When you knock someone out, you could place a collar around their neck. With that collar, they become your slaves. The Players could no longer play their PCs until their PCs have been freed. The only way to free a slave is to take off the collar. This is hella hard though, without the key. An alternative way to free the slave is to not spend upkeep on them. There should be a satisfaction and dissatisfaction meter that could be modified by certain factors like hunger and fear. This means the PC periodically has to torture the slaves with whips and whatnot, while feeding them to keep them docile.

NPCs? No thank you.

I stopped reading after you said you wanted them.

How slavery really works: You meet someones character with 2 million LPs and tell THEM to think of slavery as an alternative to murder. No need for magic collars.

Essentially you are not only making the character unable to be played but also stealing them the means of making an ancestor...
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.

I was all in favor of this, but now not so much. npc's are a hassle to make. (same as animals basically.) If you really want to enslave someone, then get really tough, beat the living hell out of them several times until they give in, destroy his/her hearth fire, and make a forced march back to your place. they cant go home, they may be able to resist you, but thats what beating them is for. they might fight back, and with all that labor they are doing, they will probly win since you arent getting any LP out of the work they do. so all in all actually a pretty bad idea. I see where your coming from but... meh.

I think by the time you build up a character to free your slave one, you wouldn't even want your slave character anymore.
And stop being so goddamn lazy. Slavery is an evil thing, and evil things are sins!
For example, that egyptian pharoah in the bible. He had slaves whipped and stuff so he was considered evil.

There are also 2 magic buttons to get out of slavery. the red "X" in the top right corner of your screen, and the "New Character" button when you log in.

Teh Az, after reading your post in Dwarves and Thieves I can see why YOU want it. On the other hand, I don't see why anybody else would want it.

This is stupid, you didn't think at all about how rediculously hard it would be to implement.

the kidnapping and randsom suggestion someone did earlier is better, cooler and it doesn't require them to program anything other than a new player model that is tied up and cannot move aroun. They can also kill themselves if they dont want to attempt to pay the randsom or cant get their friends to free them.
