Knights also had a lot more training than other troops. A lot of which was training to fight on horse. It's really not as simple as it looks.

Knights had advantages due to their armor, mainly. They wore enough of it to require a special breed of horse strong enough to ride.

yes right, but i talk about the advantage of mobility: Horses > Pikeman or Spear
and you can throw your spear only once so a crossbow might be better then, but a pikeman has more armor...

but hey, that's not the right time period and there are no pikemen in this game and no crossbow! maybe there should be implemented spears. good idea!

i'm sure a man on a horse is stronger than a simply foot soldier. it's equal if he wears a sword or a bow, i can't see there a difference and because of that they earn a benefit and because of that kind of distance weapon in this game there should be a higher benefit, because of that tactically advantage with a horse.

maybe we have to think about the "Combat Moves" and "Maneuvers" totally new: Sidestep / Dodge / Shield
maybe that have to be changed too...

Form a Phalanx.

In a normal situation, those gentlemen would have spears pointing out. Apparently they forgot them, though.

You Miiiiiight be able to pull this off with the current shields with enough men, but it'd be better to just make a board shield.

We have coinpresses. Medieval-ish era tech.

The phalanx is a Greek/Roman maneuver. As in, Late BC and early AD.

okay, might be..

but that change nothing, quote myself:
"take your horses, turn around and you can kill caesar or whoever..."

if your horses stamina is to low there's no advantage.
mobility & initiative, that's the point!

Mobility is indeed the point. But not in the way you are thinking. Horses were key in battle when their use first began, just like every other weapon or armor. When something is new, it has no counter-measures, and so any opposing army will be overwhelmed trying to fight against it. But honestly, once war-horses had been in common use long enough, pikes and spears were so effective at that point that against a pikeman, trained to rival his own skill, a knight would likely flee. Contradictory to what you said, a knight couldn't just leave and kill the caesar. The spearwall was a defensive measure that waited for the cavalry to come to it. They were usually forced into the decision by bow and cross-bow fire, and encircling infantry. To properly represent this in-game, perhaps a slight malus to running away when under ranged fire? I'd suggest some percentage that, while on foot would be barely noticeable, but on horseback would, while not devestating, be noticeable. Also, when using a spear, some way to give you a damage bonus on your first attack, to represent properly the extra damage caused by the horses charging momentum. Really, there are a lot of ways to take this, and most likely our ideas are going to have much less influence on horses than other fields because I can't imagine that J&L haven't already got their own ideas and pre-conceptions.

I'm not super keen on horses right now...

They'll probably be important when we have larger expanses that aren't water accessible though

travelling is broken, really. look at the crossroads, look at the high-speed boats with rivers basically everywhere. you can get from one side of the world to the other in a hour by boat and seconds by CR...

this needs to be fixed and there need to be horses to compensate. besides, with horses comes aimal breeding!!! how can anyone seriously be against that??

This. For all the effort that would be put into this, you could make a ton of other things.

Its not worth it.
