This has been posted a lot but is a great idea. A large (several sg's wide and covering at least one side of the current world preferably all but lets not ask too much) ocean would be great, populated with everything from tiny islands that might not be good for anything other than repair and resupply or raiding bases to larger "microcontinents" and island chains that include enough resources to make them tasty targets for cities (several hq resources like clay and sand and water and a mine or two). One thing I really don't like about the current world is that there are hardly any good sized islands in it and none bigger than a raiding base or loot store (and why bother when you can do alt vaults for that and not worry about people glitching in), not large enough to contain significant resources.
Also larger ships would be one fun endgame construction project, something which is pretty sorely lacking right now. Even brickwalls one person can knock out by themselves really (I know from experience). Its a pain, but if you've got a couple useless clayfields you can sling up five or six kilns on each and go back and forth between them w/ a wagon filled with large chests and put up a brickwall pretty easy. The steel's a bit of a pain but not so bad. It would really be nice to see some truly gigantic construction projects like massive trade ships or galleons equipped for warfare, or building sheltered gated harbours, digging canals (how frigging great would it be if we could connect those rivers where necessary to allow water travel between the major cities? Even if it was a ton of labor it'd be worth it) etc.
