Fishnet. Is made of any strings, requires a lot of them for net production and sewing skill. Occupies 2 * 2 spaces in the inventory, or for example 2 * 3.
Used just like a fishing rod. You throws the net and wait for some time (player himself can decide how long to fish and when to stop, the longer a player stood and fished, the more the catch), then opens a "window" of what you caught. Looks like a window of open chest for example, it is your catch. From it we can take the fish that we need (for example, only good q) and placed in your inventory. If you close the catch window, the other fish will be automatically dropped overboard. It would be nice to add a little extra objects, which can be caught. Algae, mussels (pearls!), something else.

The "changing places" option in the transport. Used when a person sits inside the transport and right-click on. If a person wants to take the seat on which somebody has already sitting, he will be asked "whether he wants to change places." Just like at the invitation to the party. If yes, then the two men switch places. Very useful not to moor to the shore and not out of the boat. It would be nice also to add such a menu when boarding the transport, when a person stands on the shore.

The fishing schooner. 2-3 times bigger than an ordinary boat, a very slow speed of movement. Can not be lifted and should be moored at the dock (recent thread about the docks). It has 4 seats for passengers. The first - the skipper, he controls the movement of the boat. 2, 3 places - along the sides of the boat, and 4 - in the stern, these three places for the fishermen. From these places you can throw a fishing net.

And now the essence of the idea.
Boat can be one-man operation. Player first removes the boat away from shore (the farther from shore, the greater the chance to catch a fish), and then took place of the fisherman (changing places). From this place he throws a fishing net and waiting just like as if he had been fishing near the shore. The only difference in the quality of fish in comparison with fishing from the shore. But if while at least one person fishing boat moves, the catch increased by 2-3 times. And if nets are kept by three people, then the catch can be just great, and enough to feed a small village, as the catch is limited only by the amount of free space in the inventory of fishermen.

I think that this will only increase the importance of teamwork and help those who settled near the lake but far from the places where a lot of food, it also will enjoy all those keen on marine issues.. And by the way, would do well to think the production of pearl jewelry.

I like it, opens up doorways for a lot more exclusive items, gives lakes a use besides the monotony of shallow/deep water fish. It could draw out players with the mentality that building next to water bodies is generally unsafe depending on how profitable the gambit ends up being.

Those aren't bad ideas and the yield they provide can always be adjusted as testing goes on.

Yes I agree those are some great ideas, I particularly like switching places in a rowboat as it lets you trade off control without returning to shore. If we wanted to be really diabolical though we could have each person able to control the boat simultaneously (the boat moves in some kind of vector sum of the desired movements), if your not working together your literally rowing in circles  But of course you move faster with two rowers so theirs a big incentive to go through this.

Also your Fishing schooner should have a 'hold' at least as large as a cupboard that the fish can be put in, players in the fishing positions can probably access it directly by clicking the boat and selecting "Cargo Hold" which opens up a standard container interface.

Thank you for your support, good idea!

I like the fishing nets idea, though i would like to see it more complicated in some way then you described, so fishing rod would still had some advantages over it. Or maybe it should be like this — fishing with nets you get relatively large amount of fish with decent quality, while fishing with rod — small amount with higher quality.

I do like the image of fishing schooner as you describe it, but i also liked the idea of per-set from a boat fishing net, which was discussed earlier, i think this can be an additional way to fish.

Also maybe we need to dry the nets, after each use, just to have nets lying around and give you the feeling you are in the fishing village. Something similar to what a drying frame with a skin doing right now.

One thing I would really like is an easy to make log boat. Just like some sort of Disney ride, simply a hollowed out log.
It's a one-man boat that carries nothing. (maybe one slot)
Simply for exploring.

If I was an explorah, I don't exactly need a 2-man ROWboat with exclusive space for jars and such, I just need a ride across the (surprisingly dangerous) water.

Nets are far more common method of fishing, from primitive hunter-gatherers to large scale factory trawlers the net has Always been the way to fish if you actually want to catch fish, fishing-poles are nothing more then a recreational devices that lets you tease some fish with bait and be teased in return.

True, but i guess i just like the concept of a guy waking up on sunrise (in game time sunrise) then spending some time sitting on his chair, which standing on a dock, fishing with a rod. And i want some small encouragement for players to do that.

Then again, is there a fishing championship where they use nets? While those who actually need fish for food, of course, fish with nets. So system where you get like three fishes, with a nice quality, after fifteen minutes using a rod and a lot of fish, with regular quality, using a nets, seems reasonable to me.

It would be nice to hear the opinion of the developers about this, because we can talk a long time, but in the end did not get. Devs, please tell us whether this idea is feasible and will we see something like this in the "New world"?

I'm imagining from the dev's point of view. Changing the rate at which fish can be obtained is a bit tricky. If you can drop a net and get a crapload of fish with minimal effort, than the fish loose a lot of in-game "value" due to the sharp drop in scarcity. Imagine if trees grew from sapling to full size in half a day? Logs would suddenly flood the market.

I think the idea of using a net for an all-day fishing operation is a great one, cause spending your whole afternoon fishing with a pole just for a dozen meals or so is kinda... bleh. Dropping a big net in the morning, walking away, and crossing your fingers until you come back in a few hours to check it, is a neat idea, so long as the catch rate in terms of fishes per hour isn't too far off from pole fishing.

You could differentiate between boat-sized trawling nets and hand-held nets for coastal fishing too. Don't know if that adds anything to the game "mechanics" per se, but it would be kinda neat.

I'd definitely want to see a "theft" scent for poaching another player's net in that case.
