normally materials q should matter, but i just cant imagine how better leather for the binding would make the content of the book any better.

oh and maybe the book should only be usable if the writer has more skill then the reader.

Book binding is serious, don't even joke about that.

Since we're talking FEP boosts here....

Wouldwork out nicely, however Psyche should definitely effect it somehow since we're talking about something artistic here, INT should as well, perhaps even CHA, depending on what type of book perhaps.

Most definitly Psy and Int, both are underused, and it just makes sense.

Books!!!

Postby Quilinho » Sat Feb 05, 2011 7:29 am

In real life we learn to do many things by reading books.
We could create a system of books, to make it easier to learn the skill in writing the book, though, of course, to write the book we would need some materials, which could also depend on the skill, since not all use the same book number of pages (example).
Could write a book about a skill, and then someone else could use it to learn the skill by spending less experience.
How to create a book (eg mind): number of parchments or other similar item depending on the skill, a quantity of ink, depending on ability to write, pay double LP and now have learned the skill.
What do you think?

This.

Unfortunately this is an exceptionally terrible idea. -1

I'd rather have books for registering stuff like runestones, with more capacity for holding text, of course.

There shouldn't be too many literate hearthlings, so books should be read aloud in front of large audience by most intelligent and charismatic persons.
Writing a book actually takes a large, big and incredible amount of time and effort. Not to mention writer's own mastery in subject and talent to express thoughts.
Trascribing a book is less complicated but still takes comparable amount of time. Readability of copy can increase, but contents' quality often dropes.
Mostly because of this book was one of the most expensive items during Middle Ages.
So in the game books should be extremely difficult to create and copy.

In my opinion, "reading proper books" does not teach you anything, but rather removes barriers for further learning. In game this can be achieved by making expensive barriers at certain skill values, for example, every 50-100 skill points. Or/and books can provide temporary "inspirational" skill buff.
