Yeah, I know. I didn't like the old food values because I had to keep eating like some sort of insatiable locust. It was just laughable when I headed out on expeditions with an inventory full of food and had finished all that food while still in sight of my house. I don't like the new values because I have such shitloads of food that it's just silly. I think there are several inroads to the problem. Bringing back the old values are out of the question, since I love the bonus you get from having a more varied diet, which is incompatible with the old food values (You could of course nerf FEP per food, I guess, but still). Also, I think it is well worth keeping in mind that what I am unhappy about is the fact that cupboards upon cupboards of food just sits around to no earthly use. The pace of level ups, on the other hand, I don't have a problem with. I think they come at good, steady intervals, and I just love how levling up has pushed me toward ever increasing diversification of my diet.

1) Reduce the amount of food available. Works, yes, but also gives players a lot less to do. Also, what I mind is not my relative affluence. I have worked pretty hard for the stuff I do have.
2) More meaningful content that is not food. If you could devote whole playing sessions to making good swords, or whatever, the abundance of food would be less of an issue. But how do we make that fun?

Anyways, we have a couple of good things in the pipeline that I think might very well make everything just orders of magnitude better if it works as intended.

Adding the new system (the recipe system) that you was talking about would give peeps a lot shit to do. You could longer the crops time too and other things craft time (no idea how to do that with metal, maybe smelting for a longer time ?)

more decorative items, dyes, etc would be a good step, imo

I'm telling you, guys. I'm getting such awesome thoughts for mink farming. What if you could get rid of all that excess meat and breed minks for *really* good fur products. Love how pearls have turned out so far. http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/sea_silk is clearly the next step for the mussels. PETA be damned!

Whales, walruses, seals, otter and beaver would also be awesome.

This, btw is not true either. I just don't bother with variety because it is not efficient. An onion and a sip of wine yeah, a diversity of diet no thanks.

Look on the bright side, at least nobody's asking for larger ovens anymore!

Row? What is this "rowing"? Rowing would require Oars and my boats never have Oars. Either there's a hole in the bottom of the boat and my legs are paddling very, very fast or I always assumed there was a hidden outboard motor on the back. :D

Agreed.

I *LOVE* the new values. God, I can't believe how much I can get done now without chowing down on a tonne of food every 15 minutes. I can hunt a bit if I want and bring back plenty to share.

Maybe people are farming too much? The only real reason I have such a large wheat crop isn't for the wheat. That gets grinded into flour for LP and dumped. It's mainly because I need 600 Straw for a Mansion and 10 for a Basket (I like Baskets). Like-wise Hemp. My Hemp crops are large because I need the piddly bits of string for linen, not the seeds.

10 bits of Wheat gives you one Basket (which holds a Pumpkin) and 30 bits of Wheat which becomes 15 loaves of bread. 10 bits of Hemp gives you one rope (I need 1 for a well or 4 for a Pallisade cornerpost) and 30 seeds for the Chook House. Though my Wheat crop does have a use now in feeding my Cows and Sheep. Thankfully that, plus the Hemp lasts long enough until the next harvest.

... and all I need to do for meat is find one herd of Kamikaze Attack Cows and my larder is over-flowing. Out of one dead animal I get one hide which becomes 4 bits of leather, enough for a single backpack or Quiver and enough food for the day. Yet I need to kill all 8 if I want enough Leather.

I think the regional based crops would reduce the food issue. If Wheat could only be Grown in the South, people would grow a lot of it and want to trade it. So stockpiles of their food would be huge but they'd need to trade it with those who didn't have that food.

man i get my FEP needed down to less than 50% of my highest stat on a regular basis, it seems pretty efficient.
