Tried that. still the torch didn't work.

You have to type "nightvision off" or "nightvision false"

Alternative options: Change client back to normal, restart client (I think it goes away when restarting...).

The whole light thing is a bit silly anyway. To make it really matter, darkness should slow actions. Mining, crafting, even walking at extreme darkness (walk in mines and caves, run outside).
