Yeah, the key term there is map reset. There is merit to the fact the way they've approached things thus far may actually carry all the way through development of the game (assuming it doesn't become a seemingly eternal alpha like something else), but I'm not sure I'd consider that any sort of guarantee that I'll be playing the same character or even the same bloodline in the misty future.

I imagine that there'll definitely be sort of incentive for having been around on the ground floor regardless, given all the ancestor worship... stuff that's been bandied about.

Look into the definition of alpha vs beta vs complete.

Although it's frequently misused on large projects, beta was originally used to mean "feature complete, some bugs still to fix".

The day that H&H becomes "feature complete" and therefore no longer alpha is the day I most likely stop playing it. I don't think I'd be able to maintain interest in something that people were no longer updating.

Feature complete doesn't mean that there won't be anymore updates. Look at team fortress two, they to fairly regular updates, but it is certainly a finished game. Feature complete more so means that the game has all the features to make it work fully.

This doesn't really make any sense. Not one single MMO has ever been released and never had any updates simply because the game was complete. In fact, no MMO is ever "complete," they all have additions and updates. I'm going to assume you've just never played any other game like this. People don't make these games and then just say, "WELP, we're out of alpha and beta stages. We've finally got a product that is finished enough to be considered a full, "complete" game! ....Let's stop adding to it now."

And to contribute to the thread, I believe there should probably be entire server resets, especially after the LP and skill systems are overhauled. This is a game in alpha stages. There is no reason anyone should think they would keep their characters for long, and I don't see why it was ever promised (if it was.)

Agh, people keep posting and saying what I have to say better. I'll try to put it concisely.

I know what alpha/beta/complete means. The vernacular has drifted somewhat given that MMOs use a somewhat different model that, as has been mentioned, adds content and possibly even features. Perhaps it's not entirely accurate in the more traditional sense, but it's not cat-and-dog different.

Ok, well counter to that argument, is that we don't see why the dev's should re-start the server just so you new comers can get a leg up on us old timers. (not that you really need one on my character)

Having a set of characters across a wide range of competence is better data for the devs than having a bunch of players all at low levels and having to wait for the grinders to take the lead again.

I should really stop arguing with you about it, I don't believe for a second that J&L are going to do a server restart anyway, I just can't help myself :P

I think you're confusing me with someone else. I never once stated that the restarts should be for anyone to catch up with someone else. In the case of the removal of the LP system and implementation of a new, I think there should be a restart not only for the sake of testing the new system, but to also prevent any bugs there may be from characters that have remnants of that system.
