The most advanced thing we have is steel, which wasn't done in any sense of the word widely until the middle ages. That puts us at about just the right place. I would be a fan of more advanced mechanics, but delving into steam power seems a bit odd. Assuming we had it, we could also have trains and factories. Sure, it might seem fun, but it just doesn't really make sense when there would still be people in the world who are only able to farm because of their personal beliefs, and there are people being spawned who don't know how to cut down trees, both of which say as a train whizzes by their plot of land and the sun is blotted out from the smoke from the textile factory.

Maybe basic mechanics, like clocks, or rails for minecarts.
