But there's ways to make the whole village NOT rise or fall just because of one key.
A lot of villages have personal walled plots inside the main village wall. If every player stored their goods on their own plot this would be less of an issue (if teleportation was removed).
There are a lot of ways to be properly secure, or atleast more secure than what is currently practicised now with keys, they just haven't been explored that deeply because everyone just teleports anyway(?)

I feel like this is an issue a lot of the time in this game, some parts of the game aren't that 'explored' when it comes to making systems for making stuff work : p because of the perma death thing, people of course want maximum security. It sounds to me like when you're talking about village security with keys, you are doing so with the current popular village designs in mind?

So are there really no ways of planning a village layout so that the loss of one key is not such a horrible loss as Potjeh keeps raging on about?

EDIT: There should be a way to bar a gate, even though someone has a key. To prevent abuse this should ONLY work if you have access to a claim (village/personal) by applying a board to a gate?
It would be a quick and relatively easy answer if you know someone has stolen one of your keys, like destroying Crossroads if you suspect someone has got access now.

Except the whole point of being in a village is sharing infrastructure like smelters or ovens. Have fun rebuilding it all, especially if you lose a third stage hammer and anvil set.

If we could bar gates as you suggest, you'd be an idiot not to keep them bared at all times.

What the fuck do you think leaving a gate open is? How about infiltration or ambushes? Making a system convenient doesn't render it failsafe

Of course I'm an angry fuck. 1 bar of third stage iron takes 400 iron bars. That's 2800 iron bars for a hammer and anvil. 5 ore per bar, that's 14000 ore, or 560 smelters. It takes roughly 3 minutes to mine a smelter, so that's 28 man-hours worth of mining (the worst job in the game) you're losing just because somebody in your village died. And that's just hammer and anvil, let's not forget crucibles, and the tons of high q clay you'll need to rebuild kilns, smelters and ovens, clay which takes RL weeks to harvest.

That does not change the fact that passwords work differently than permissions. just because mistakes can be committed in both cases do not make them the same, smugface.
@ Potjeh ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Say teleportation goes, and keys stay. What about storing surplus resources in their own little walled off place, or even just giving the smithy access to high tier stuff

No i am not in favour of a claim/permission based gate system but there is something called 'tounge in cheek', i tend to do it while sucking dicks. lots of dicks.
