things in this quote that I question:
1. why would any one event need more than one thread (by the same person, no less)
2. your ideas can wait, they won't be implemented for ages anyways
3. "you have to"

Unfortunately inspiration comes and goes, as does the want to post. When people are suddenly inspired, they don't want to have to wait an hour.

Also, once again, why punish everyone for the actions of a few? So the mods have less work? It's your job, if it's getting too hard then just quit, I'm on many forums and not one has a topic cooldown, a cooldown or a restriction would just go against the laws of everything a forum stands for.

actually many forums have a post cooldown of about a minute, and I've met several have thread cooldowns

although they tend to not use phpbb, so maybe its a default of whatever they are using?

no need for speculation! the purpose is twofold, as I already mentioned earlier:

obviously the former is the real goal here

I've met post cooldowns of a minute too, but never a thread cooldown, post cooldowns of a minute are just inplcae to prevent bots to post infinitely. If you're human it basically takes at least a minute to read & type your post.

Sorry Jackard, I don't like this idea. I understand where it's coming from, but silencing a everyone because a few peeps are posting threads every hour isn't a good solution at all.

Agreed. It's unlikely in the extreme that these people would ever have an idea that would actually improve the game. This is the only suggestion in the thread that doesn't make the mod team look lazy.

If the moderators feel it's a problem, I think the whitelist is a good idea if the topic cooldown can be applied to the rest of us without too much time/effort. There could be a thread to request joining the whitelist, minimum requirements being 500 posts and having joined at least 3 months ago. Posting in the thread without those requirements should result in a week ban to prevent annoying newbs begging to become an exception. If they can't use the search function in "How Do I?", they could check the wiki... Doing both, I've rarely needed to ask questions there, especially not with multiple topics in a row. Newer players clearly suggest a lot of previously suggested things here in "Critique & Ideas"... It might help to make a sticky containing the EXTREMELY common ones and threatening a ban if someone makes a new topic to suggest it again. A megathread with a full suggestion index would probably be too much of a hassle to maintain and not much easier to check through than using the search feature.

I don't frequent this place much, but I know it can be very annoying moderating/babysitting the same shit over and over again. It's probably also annoying for jorb/loftar to see the same old suggestions popping up every month, maybe it would even discourage them from reading threads that have typical seeming titles.
RIP

So you're saying people like zackatack don't play much? This idea is worse then the original thought behind the main idea.
