I don't see why you don't get discovery LP per the event since you are mapping a new area each time.

In that case why not return LP to all actions? I think it should be 100% curios now thats the system.

But why is the half-assed discovery system in, if it's supposed to be 100% curio?

Getting discovery LP for mapping would only apply once for that location per hearthling, obviously. And mapping it seems as close to a "discovery" as you can possibly get as far as the game is concerned. One thing I previously liked about H&H was it was one of the few games that reward exploration. Now the only reward for exploration is finding resources to camp with alt claims.

Cartography is never used because mapping clients have been commonplace since world 3; atleast back then there was gameplay rewards for using it; now there are none.

there are lots of things you don't get discovery lp for: certain foragables, any animal fur past rabbit, leeches, silkworm egg(unless you use a barter stand), and I can't think of any others right off hand...but there are other exeptions. I agree cartography may be an unused skill, but you don't have to get it. on the other hand plant lore is completely useless(as far as I and the wiki know), and you have to get it to get farming and yeomanry, basic skills.

Curios only. In fact, no curios gives discovery LP. (Think WWW, too, as there's nothing to craft with them.)
ImAwesome wrote:animal fur past rabbit

because they're all considered the same item: fresh skin. They differ after they dry, though.
ImAwesome wrote:leeches

surprisingly... :( probably because there's no way to pick them up directly from swamps.
ImAwesome wrote:silkworm egg

didn't know about that one.

Need it to make ink for party hats (nice FEP and hunger bonus when feasting; bonfire needed as the hat provides +CHA.)

You need Cartography to unlock Road Building as well. That's not what I'm complaining about since I buy tons of skills I never use (like black skills). But this game is entirely about geography, and it used to have a functional gameplay mechanic about it.

Also, my point about the discovery system was just to point out that the game isn't 100% curio based. Personally I think it'd be a mistake if it was, considering its still the old skill-perk purchasing system for growth.

Cartography still does have a functional gameplay mechanic. Now, I think this is getting too far off topic, so that's all the more I'm going to say on it. (Besides, it's all been said over and over again, anyway.)

Thats a perfect idea! Polished Dirt for a Curio! Create using dirt and water and let dry on a herb table. It's perfect!
