Because you think you could go and pet foxes and deers in these times ?
Animals did have a survival instinct yet.

Though you talk about "hunting" but there is no hunt. You pick rabbits as you'd pick chantrelles, except chantrelles require more perc / explo...
A few rabbit skins and you have your sling, and with some points in mm and some patience you can go straight for bears and boars.
One bear-cape / necklace and some strength meat later you are already mining iron for your brickwall and your invincibility... (I'm exaggerating a bit but not that much)
The only thing that slows everyone are "personal beliefs".

I think that the birth of a new character (assuming he'll live alone for a few days), is one of the better parts, if not THE better part, of the game.
At this point there is no such thing as "farming", you just try (or should try) to survive and have something to eat.
Giving away meat, skin and bones makes it way too easy to survive in the wild and spoils the fun.

Do I mention the lack of need of fresh water? The always sunny weather? The lack of plants which could hurt if you eat them? ...

Its a game! Adding more tedious things to do just to acquire meat adds more grind. Adding thirst adds more stats to monitor and more grind. Do veteran players have an advantage when going out to hunt? Yes of course. That means they have learned what is needed to hunt, nothing more.

I do agree the early game is fun. You can explore, develop, and be on equal terms with others. But that is not a reason to force struggle through the whole game. Sure I move up to a sling or a bow and game gets easier. I raise my skills and it helps to. That is progress. If you want to live a survivalist life you can do so in Haven now. Don't form a pclaim, don't make a permanent home, maybe live in a cave and wander about. The game is what you make of it. Yes it has its limitations but most only need tweeking or more creative thoughts on how to play.

The greatest thing Haven needs is in depth content. People zoom through things way to fast. Don't get me wrong the progression speed is fine but the requirements and skill tree is to small. If you have more to do or have to wait to acquire certain skill levels to have an understanding of something its more accurate and fair.

Adding a hunting simulator to Haven may be fun to some but it is a whole new grind.
