Joints are conveniently disposable but I've found the an apple pipe is just as effective for disposable paraphernalia but not as innocuous as J's which can be passed off as rollies. Other than that relatively obscure (and rather ballzy) scenario, pipes & especially bongs are the most conservative.

Rolling a joint is an enjoyable experience in itself, and it burns longer which lets me savour the taste. I've tried all sorts of paraphernalia (except blunts, can't buy blunt wraps here), and joints are by far the best. Oh, and they're by far the most common way to smoke pot in my part of the world.

J's have the best flavor.

Pipes are the most conservative.

Bongs are the most effective.

Vaporizers are the best hands down though flavor may be lacking.
