Good idea. Cotton has been around for thousands and thousands of years, and in use by humans.

the suggestion:
cotton seeds from WWW, and cotton plants. if tea bushes thrive in the climate of H&H, cotton plants should as well.
cotton plants produce 1-3 seed-boxes on harvest depending on nature-industry level, and those are used with the spinning wheel to produce 1 seed and 1 unit of cotton. cotton can then be weaved into cotton binds on a loom, same way as yarn is processed into gauze.

sheep are currently the exclusive source of both mutton and yarn, making them (in my opinion) too important.
cotton would solve the healing problem for the players, until there is any way to get tame sheep (or cows or carts) across water, and add cotton clothing. an alternative in terms of healing would be linen binds produces from plant fibers. that would be more dev-friendly, as it'd require only 1 new item and it's recipe instead of an entire new crop. cotton would be nicer realism-wise, though.

can lower CON players benefit from HQ leeches? i noticed the quality is reduced

Why not add more herbs for players to forage, and then add an alchemy-like class which enables players to mix them for certain effects, such as healing, poison, etc. etc. Then, players will be able to heal themselves, tip arrows with poison, poison food, create bait...idk it seems like a system that can easily be open-ended, and simultaneously facilitated to create an ordered balance with the rest of the game systems.

By class, I meant it in a loose way. Such as hunting, fishing, farming, are--more or less--classes...or professions, whatever you wish to classify them by
