sorry for nitpicking, but in the OP you only mentioned a rebalance of FEP. So i assumed you were supporting the idea that food should be used mainly for FEPs, not so much for basic survival.

balancing means taking everything into consideration, not leaving things half done

I fully support hunger draining WAY slower and food being more filling.

Espically now that I can't just eat hundreds of apples.

I was going to suggest making apples an ulimited resource, but no doubt that goes against the new resource management angle.

I'm just sick of getting in very little construction done before spending half an hour looking for rabbits.

Just as a filler, NOT as a final solution to the problem...
Is there anyone out there who has a good reason not to increase the hunger-decreasing values of food by 1.5-2x? Anyone? This has been noted time and time again since last May. Why not just increase satiation a bit while the real re-balance is planned?

I'd like to second Winterbrass' idea of decimal values for stats, making a varied diet something less random. while your stats should even out in long term (e.g. eating plaice for 30 stats should leave you with +10 int + 20 perc), the decimal accounting would make life easier for new players.
