As I understand it, the plan is to make quality spots completely exhaustible, ie you get a couple of treepots worth of soil out of a soil quality spot, and it's gone, replaced by q10 soil forever. If you ask me, being forced to spend 90% of of your playtime running around looking for quality spot is the most tedious thing ever. I'd rather have shift-move removed than deal with that.

Wah where did this come out of? Did I miss an announcement? That sounds completely and utterly horrible.

Jorb mentioned it in the latest announcement thread, and in some thread before, but I can't remember which one. I sincerely hope I'm misunderstanding him, but the hope is slim.

Why would you introduce something like that without
having some resources be renewable or
the means to replenish quality like fertilizer or
a way to slow down consumption

When paired with overlogging it makes hearthlings sound like defilers from dark sun

I agree with Jackard here, fwiw. Exhaustible resources may be an awesome game feature, but there has to be some mechanism for replenishing the sum-total of resources on the map alltogether. Otherwise we'll just end up with an eventual heat death of the hearthland.

(Although, now I think of it, maybe that could be a good thing for an alpha game: let us little hearthlings rape and plunder the land until it's no longer sustainable, competing over scarce resources, then reboot the world, implement whatever bugfixes and new features they got, and start all over again...)

IIRC it was said that replacements will be generated at random point anywhere in the world. Still, screw that.
