You're trying to do something that doesn't make sense to me... I could see people moving the cliff out of the way a bit so that the wall can go around the cliff, I could see people building some sort of gonzo wall that goes right up the cliff face, but through it?
As if there was just a hole in the middle of the ridge where the ground didn't change height?

Just sounds weird.

Walls through rivers/lakes sounds more realistic to me (and that one doesn't sound easy either)

So lets say we get this as new content, be able to break down cliffs (with a ram or a pick idc). We needed height then.
Ok, so height it is. Let me show you how the result would be:

Before V
-----------------------------------------
/////////////////////////////|
/////////////////////////////|
/////////////////////////////|
/////////////////////////////----------------------------------------------------------

After V
----------------------
///////////////|
///////////////|
///////////////|
///////////////----------------------------------------------------------------------------

And then what? You would only be able to move the cliff. Or do you suggest both sides should be lower then the actual cliff, making it a standalone mountain?

This. This is why realism should have some importance to game design.
Also, for a guy who is so..erm.."fuck realism" oriented, why are you also anti-magic? I am anti magic as well, but saying "no healing potions! That not real, its magic!!" on the one hand, while on the other saying "Lets knock down cliffs with battering rams! Its not magic...its...um...fuck realism!" seems to be a bit of a logical disconnect.

Because the current collision box of cliffs prevent walls from being safe unless you put an extra shiftplaced corner post on each side of the cliff. Obviously fixing the collision box is the simpler fix for this, but cliffs will stay an annoyance if they are really bad positioned.

That works if you're an itty bitty city. Oh right...you're a loner so you have no idea what I'm talking about.
